Leap Into the Future
For the eleventh work hosted by Kahve Dünyası’s contemporary art project, Yanköşe, the space’s vertical walls are transformed into the earth’s surface in a representation of the destruction of Istanbul’s green spaces. Bulldozers rampantly move along the vertical surface and demolish the earth, veritably peeling off its skin. The large installation transforms the unplanned and uncontrolled impact humans have on nature into a direct image that lays bare how humans devastate the earth. Kahve Dünyası’s contemporary art project, Yanköşe, appears before us in its eleventh iteration as a representation of the destruction of Istanbul’s green spaces. Yanköşe’s walls are transformed into a vertical representation of the earth, symbolizing both urban transformation and the destruction of nature. This striking installation presents bulldozers rampantly moving along as they destroy the earth in a veritable act of peeling off nature’s skin itself. The installation converts humanity’s unplanned and uncontrolled interventions into nature into a direct image, which asks profound questions of viewers and beseeches them for an internal reckoning.
